Collection Historical Note
The Methodist Society was formed in 1809 and a church building constructed shortly after on Bluff Street. In 1836 the Society divided forming the North Salem Church and the First Methodist Church of Salem. When First was destroyed in a fire in 1917, they rebuilt and it became the Hannah Tenney Memorial.
