In 1837, the first Church was built and dedicated but by 1844, the church burned down, it was rebuilt in 1845, rededicated and renamed Park Street.In 1867, Main Street Methodist Episcopal Church was organised. They initially worshipped at Washburn Hall for four years.
In 1869, a lot was bought on Walnut Street and a house of worship was erected. The name Grace Methodist Episcopal Church was adopted in 1871, the old name having become a misnomer on an account of the change of location. The church was dedicated in 1872.
