Scope and Contents of the Materials
Washington Village was renamed in 1892 as Barham Memorial in honor of a generous supporter. It merged in 1951 with Wesley to form the United Methodist Church of South Boston.
Collection Historical Note
1871: Church organized as Washington Village. Meetings were held first in a small shop, then in Washington Hall. 1874: Chapel dedicated. 1889: New site purchased. 1890: Chapel re-opened. 1892: Church renamed Barham Memorial. 1950: Building renovated. 1951: Merged with Wesley. Name changed to United Methodist Church of South Boston. 1963: Merged with Italian Methodist Church of our Saviour. Name became Church of our Saviour.
