Collection Historical Note

Founded during a revival in 1831 in Montville under Orange Scott, a society was formed immediately. Sermons were held in school houses and groves until 1835. The first appointment to this church as a two-point charge (Uncasville and Montville) was also in 1835.  In the same year the churches were constructed. From 1923 to 1925 , Gardner Lake was paired with Trinity, and from 1926 to 1944, it was paired with Norwich Town, whose records contain information on the closing of Gardner Lake in 1944.
