Dr. Bruce Weaver, former Coordinator Russia Initiative for Church Development from 1992-2003. Prior to that he served the United Methodist Commission on Relief (UMCOR) as interim director from 1991-1992 in New York. Weaver began his work with the Methodist Church serving churches in Texas and rising to Superintendent of the Dallas-Denton District, North Texas Conference in June 1986.
He became involved as a volunteer with UMCOR on the occassion of a major tornado that swept through Witchita Falls, Texas in May 1979, leaving more than 20,000 people homeless and 7,500 homes destroyed or severely damaged. Hew assisted UMCOR in recruiting and training volunteers, developing strategies for disaster response, and on site visits to disaster ravaged areas in the United States and in many country around the world. His travels have included the famine area in Somolia, Earthquake in Italy, Hurrican in Jamaica (1988), St. Croix (1989), and other disaster stricken areas.
In the North Texas Conference he was elected as a delegate in 1976, 1980, and 1988 General and Jurisdictional Conferences. His ministry also included having served as a member of the General Board of Higher Education and Ministry.
He and his wife Doris have two sons and grandchildren. Dr. Weaver graduated from Gatesville High School, Baylor University, and Perkins School of Theology at Southern Methodist University.
