Title: CT - West Thompson - West Thompson Methodist, 1853-1963

Administrative/Biographical History
Preaching started winter of 1792-1793 which resulted in a formal organization in 1794. Worship services were first held in an upper chamber of Captain Cargill's house and subsequently in the spacious kitchen of Noah Perrin. Also, preaching was held in Captain Jonathan Nichols' house.
The first church was built in 1797 and dedicated as soon as enclosed. This building is now used as a dwelling located at the foot of the hill below the church.
The present church was erected in 1840, it was finished and dedicated in 1841. West Thompson is considered as the "mother" church of at least thirteen churches.
The church suffered much during the hurricane of 1938, it was decorated and remodeled.
