Administrative/Biographical History
The first preaching was done in factories in1833. The first Methodist Society began in 1834, and sometimes the congregation met in the homes of members and in a school house. The first church constructed in 1847. In 1854, the church building was destroyed by fire and the church immediately moved to a small hall. In 1855, the Baptists had financial difficulties and they sold their building to the church. By 1867, the congregation moved to a new, bigger, brick church. A parsonage, was purchased in 1889, and in 1890, a pipe organ purchased from the First Congregational Church. In 1957, a decision was made to build a new church, dedicated in 1959, and enlarged in 1989. The church is still open. Author: Uchenna Joan Awa
