Began in the 1790s and by 1816, a church was erected and dedicated, and by 1824, a flood destroyed the church. The church held their services at the Congregational Church, Universalist Church and the Baptist Church.In 1831, a sanctuary was erected and dedicated. In 1833, the society in Landing founded a church and called it the East Main Street Methodist Episcopal Church. The East Main Street Church was known by several names, in 1834, it was called "Norwich South", 1837 it was called "Landing", in 1855, it was known as East Main Street"and by 1858 it was called "Main Street".
