Administrative/Biographical History
In 1790- 1841 Methodist in Manchester, met in homes and eventually in the Methodist meeting house. Formerly, in 1784, the first meetings were held at Mr. Spencer's home on Spencer Street until 1827. The building was sold in 1841 and the church moved to Middle Turnpike, but it was burnt in 1843.
The Methodist Church was located at Manchester Center and it had the first bell. A lot of people came to worship from all over Manchester. In 1849 and 1850, a conclusion was reached to divide and have two Methodist churches in the North and the South.
The South Methodist Church was founded in 1854.
On October 15th, 1851, the Methodist Episcopal Society at the North Manchester "The House" was finished and dedicated to the worship of God.
