Collection Historical Note
The first Church in Needham was organied in 1792. The Needham Heights, then called Highlandville, church became a parish in 1867, called the Highlandville ME Church. They held services in Highland Hall until the church building was completed and dedicated in 1876. The name was changed to First ME Church of Needham Heights in 1908. In 1951 it was changed again to Carter Memorial because of a generous donation made when building a new church. They celebrated their 100th Anniversary in 1967 and are currently located at 800 Highland Ave in Needham, MA.
