Scope and Contents of the Materials

This church was founded in 1791. In 1968, it was merged with St. Paul’s to form Christ Church.

Collection Historical Note

1790: First Methodist service preached by Jesse Lee. 1791: Methodist Society formed and the First Church built, known as Lynn Common ME Church. 1792: The first Methodist Conference of New England was held. 1794: Name changed to First. 1812: First Church moved to a different building and original church sold to the Baptist Society. 1891: Celebrated the 100th Anniversary. 1956: Celebrated the 165th Anniversary. 1968: Merged with St. Paul's to form Christ Church.
