Scope and Contents of the Materials

Formed in 1911 by the merger of Garden Street and First M.E. Church. When Parker Street was closed in 1955, most of the members transferred to Central. In 1970, Central was merged with Oaklands, St. Mark’s, St. Paul’s and Vine Street to form the Lawrence United Methodist Church.

Collection Historical Note

1911: First ME Church and Garden Street Church merge to form Central ME Church. 1912: Church building dedicated. 1955: Absorbed members of Parker St. Church after it was closed. 1962: Celebrated 50th Anniversary. 1970: Merged with Oaklands, St. Mark’s, St. Paul’s and Vine Street to form the Lawrence United Methodist Church, which is currently located at 207 Haverhill St.
