Title: ME - Eliot - Methodist Episcopal, 1826-1919

Administrative/Biographical History
The history of Eliot United Methodist Church begins with the history of the methodist churches in East and South Eliot.
In East Eliot, a religious society was formed and the church was built and dedicated by 1826.
In South Eliot, the first Methodist class was formed in 1843. By 1844, a small church was built. And in 1854, the Wesleyan Society became more organised and a church was built on Bolt Hill Road.
In 1968, the church purchased 16 acres of land in the middle of town. The two churches merged in 1969 and in 1986, a new building was built and dedicated.
